Atlanta Apartment Association (AAA), the multifamily housing trade association for the Metro Atlanta area, announced today the election of Sherry Freitas as 2021 chair of AAA’s board of directors. Freitas will serve as head of the Executive Committee, which comprises the Chair, Chair-Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, Immediate Past Chair and three Directors.

In Freitas’ current role as the Managing Director, Global Operations Support at Greystar, she explores how to do business more effectively in countries outside of the U.S. With over 20 years of experience in the multifamily industry, Freitas offers a wealth of knowledge in leadership, operations and property management. She has served on the AAA board for seven years and was AAA’s 2017 Chairperson of the Year.

“Sherry has been an active member of the Association for many years and continues to bring fresh insights to the table that benefit our members,” said Jim Fowler, president of AAA. “Her global experience, positive energy and genuine desire to connect with our members made her a stand-out choice for Chair. We’re confident in her ability to lead our board and membership in 2021.”

Freitas will help navigate the Association and its members through key 2021 initiatives, including government affairs and public relations around the COVID-related eviction moratorium and the continuing push by local governments for rent control and affordable housing. She will also help introduce the new subcommittee on diversity, equality and inclusion. Freitas hopes to bring a sense of normalcy and connection back to AAA.

“It’s no surprise that last year was a challenging one for our owners, managers and associate members,” said Freitas. “We were disconnected from one another and faced many uncertainties. This year, we will focus on reconnecting – from bringing back AAA events we know and love to reengaging with one another. I’m proud to be able to lead the Association through this next year and look forward to seeing what our members can accomplish.”

Prior to joining Greystar in 2012, Freitas held positions with Wood Partners, ING Clarion and Summit Properties. She is a Certified Property Manager with the Institute of Real Estate Management and participated in the National Apartment Association Leadership Lyceum.

Founded in 1975, AAA is one of the largest local apartment associations in the country and an affiliate of the Georgia Apartment Association and the National Apartment Association. Currently, AAA represents over 1,400 member companies, consisting of 370 companies managing 400,000+ apartment homes and over 1,100 businesses that provide products and services to the industry.
