Three local artists unleash inspiring creativity and color on an Atlanta BeltLine apartment community

On Saturday, Nov. 7, RangeWater Real Estate invites the community to celebrate three local artists in residence at The Skylark, RangeWater’s modern and contemporary apartment community along the Atlanta BeltLine. Guests can experience the celebrations of visual-thought leaders Megan Mosholder, Lacey Longino and Eric Nine as they unveil their artful installations and experiential journey of hope through art.

“Recognizing how much our local art community has struggled to make ends meet this year, we created a unique program to house three artists onsite and work with them to spread messages of hope and unity through art,” said Melania Armenta, experience marketing manager at RangeWater. “The artists had full creative control over their installations and it’s amazing how they’ve transformed the space.”

The artists began their residency at The Skylark in April and have since been creating art installations throughout the community. Each artist channeled their signature style and creative mindset to develop meaningful art encounters on property features, from stairwells to building facades. The artists involved in the Arts Create Hope exhibit include:

  • Lacey Longino – A mixed-media painter and muralist, Lacey Longino is known for bright, imaginative works that combine funky patterns with realistic portraits. In addition to being exhibited throughout Atlanta, Lacey’s work has been adapted for numerous building facades and business interiors to help infuse community spaces with awe-inspiring, colorful joy. Lacey brings her colorful vision to The Skylark with a hand painted mural, featuring eye-catching pops of color and visually stimulating elements.
  • Megan Mosholder – A graduate of SCAD and current professor at Kennesaw State University, Megan Mosholder is a local artist who captures the socio-political landscape through site responsive, sculptural installations. Megan’s focus on three-dimensional drawings, often enhanced by light, allows her to create immersive, multi-sensory artworks that have garnered recognition from profound institutions. Megan’s installation at The Skylark involves reimagining unused spaces, such as stairwells, to create beautiful masterpieces.

“I cannot thank both Rangewater and Melania Armenta enough for this opportunity,” said Mosholder. “They have given me so much: a place to live and work and the budget to build a permanent, public artwork during an integral part of my career and life. Moving back into Atlanta in 2020 has brought me closer to my art community while also bringing me the peace of mind with the space to create. Living in the city has been especially important to me right now because I am in the final days of my two-year recovery after a catastrophic car accident in 2018. For me, art is life and living at Skylark has dramatically enhanced my life for the better. It is my hope that this sentiment can be seen through the art installation I have created as a gift for the Chosewood community, an installation that I have worked all my love, light and strength of recovery into.”

  • Eric Nine– A renowned fine artist, graphic designer and creative director, Eric Nine is a visual artist whose work examines the intersection of popular urban culture and contemporary socio-political issues. Eric’s signature style of frenetic pen lines and loose water-based mixed media has been recognized, revered and sought by numerous industries. Eric transformed a public-facing building facade into an inspiring depiction of a ballerina flying a Skylark kite.

From 4 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, The Skylark’s open-air veranda and Boulevard Art Path will be activated with a chalk art competition, potting and painting art stations, performance artists, the Sunshine Alchemy food truck offering light bites and drinks, and live music by DJ Dirty Martinez. The chalk art competition will be centered around the #ARTScreateHOPE theme and the first place winner will receive $500, second place $250 and third place $100. Masks will be provided and are required for the socially distanced event. More event details can be found here

In addition to the Arts Create Hope exhibit, on Saturday, Dec. 5, The Skylark community will host “SkyBasel”, an adaptation of the international art fair “ArtBasel.” ArtBasel is held annually in Basel, Switzerland; Miami Beach, Florida; and Hong Kong and collaborates with the host city to help grow and develop art programs. The Skylark will transform its unique LiveWork units on the street-level into art galleries for 15-20 local artists, further supporting and engaging the local art community.
