Study: Georgia Ranks Among the Top States for the Middle Class

The middle class, generally characterized as households that earn approximately two-thirds to two times the median national income, comprises slightly more than half (52%) of American households. That figure is down from 61% in 1971.

Still, some parts of the U.S. are better suited to this socio-economic class than others. In a new study, SmartAsset analyzed data on metrics related to income, jobs and homeownership to find the best states for the middle class.

Georgia ranks as the 25th-best state for the middle class, tying with Tennessee. To see how all 50 states and D.C. stack up, check out the infographic below.
