On Friday, June 12, the community is invited to hop in their cars and head to Avalon to experience “Drive-In Live,” Alpharetta’s first-ever drive-in concert. From 6 to 8 p.m., guests are encouraged to safely gather in and around their cars for a live musical performance from local favorite the Mike Veal Band. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund in its mission to support artists and musicians impacted by COVID-19.
The surface parking lot in front of Ted’s Montana Grill will turn into a patchwork of cars and tiny tailgating parties. Upon arrival, ticketed guests will be directed to their designated parking spot where they are welcome to set up chairs or remain in their cars for the show. To encourage social distancing, Drive-In Live is limited to 55 cars, leaving two empty parking spaces between each group. During the event, Alpharetta City Police Department and additional Avalon security will be onsite to kindly enforce social distancing and prevent groups from gathering in front of the stage.
In addition, select restaurants will be offering pre-ordered meals for pick-up so attendees can enjoy the Avalon experience from the comfort of their parking space. Restaurants creating special menus for Drive-In Live include Cru Wine Bar, Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar, Branch and Barrel and more.
The idea behind Drive-In Live came in part from a survey in which Avalon’s social media followers answered questions about the types of events they felt comfortable attending this summer. Out of the 775 respondents, a majority of voters expressed interest in attending a drive-in event at Avalon. Ticket sales for Drive-In Live opened yesterday and were sold out in less than 24 hours, showcasing the community’s eagerness to get out of their homes and gather together again at Avalon.
“We’re listening to our community and designing events that creatively and safely activate Avalon in today’s new normal,” said Lauren Ness, marketing manager at Avalon. “Friday nights haven’t been the same without live music at Avalon, and Drive-In Live is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the community to sit back, relax and enjoy the show all while supporting a great cause.”
All proceeds from Drive-In Live will benefit Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund to help advance its mission of supporting artists and musicians who have been affected by COVID-19. For more information about the event, please visit:www.experienceavalon.com/drive-in-live.
Last month, Avalon’s developer and management company North American Properties (NAP) launched Better Together, a COVID-19 response program designed to make the destination safe for the community’s return. As part of this, NAP has deployed a series of preventative measures at Avalon that include increasing sanitation procedures in all common areas and on high touch surfaces; turning sidewalks into one-way streets to cut down on pedestrian interactions; and posting signage and decals throughout the property to reinforce best practices. The full list of safety precautions taken at Avalon can be found here: www.experienceavalon.com/safety-precautions.
Guests are encouraged to share their experiences at Avalon using hashtag #AvalonInsider. For more information about Avalon, visitits website, Facebook page, Instagram or Twitter profile.
