Chef Felicia Lacalle brings her award-winning Cuban food to the Deep South

SRS Real Estate Partners (SRS) is pleased to announce Hemingway’s, a Tampa-based Cuban restaurant and winner of “Best Cuban Sandwich,” is opening a second location in Atlanta. Slated to open in Spring 2020, the new outpost will be located inside Krog Street Market, a 30,000-square-foot food hall and market destination tucked in the Inman Park neighborhood, right off the BeltLine’s Eastside Trail.

“I have wanted to expand Hemingway’s for some time, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring our food to Atlanta,” said Chef / Owner, Felicia (“Phe”) Lacalle. “As soon as you set foot in Krog Street Market, you can almost taste its infectious energy -- and that’s what Hemingway’s is all about.”

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Hemingway’s second location will stick to the original restaurant’s menu with appetizers including house-made chicharrones with Cuban fire water, tostones rellenos topped with homemade spicy saffron aioli, as well as the crowd favorite, Cuban Salchipapa (yucca fries piled high with shredded pork, chicharrones, melted cheese, crispy onions, aioli duo and fresh cilantro). Main dishes will range from sandwiches like the traditional La FritaCubana, El Ultimo (palomilla steak sandwich) and of course the award-winning Cuban Sandwich to customizable BYO-Cuban bowls with fillings including ropavieja, picadillo, garlic + lime sautéed green beans, cilantro white rice, mojo quinoa and homemade black beans among others. Sweet endings include Chef Phe’s Abuela’s Tres Leche cake and guava & cream cheese empanadas with dulce de leche dipping sauce. This location will also feature a robust sangria bar featuring a rotating lineup of signature homemade blends.

“Atlanta knows soul food; Tampa knows Cuban food -- and our cuisine combines them both,” added Lacalle. “They haven’t tasted anything like this before.”

Krog Street Market and Atlanta Stove Works, in Atlanta's Inman Park neighborhood, are home to an award-winning food hall, shopping and dining destinations, and creative office suites. Both are adjacent to the most recent extension of the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail, an important catalyst for development and a preferred location for intown retail, restaurant, and office tenants. Tenants include well-known food and beverage outlets such as Superica, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, the James Beard Award nominated Ticonderoga Club, Watchman’s Seafood and Spirits, Rathbun’s, and The Little Tart Bake Shop along with retail and office tenants including The Merchant, Iris, and The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership, among others.

Since opening inside the historic Armature Works in February 2017, Hemingway’s has enjoyed great success with critics and guests alike. Its devoted customer base has resulted in ongoing rave reviews (Yelp, Google, Facebook) as well as continuous praise from the blogging and influencer community; additionally, Hemingway’s received first place for best “Tampa Historic Cuban Sandwich” in the International Cuban Sandwich Festival. The restaurant has also been featured in both local and national media outlets including Food & Wine (“Florida’s Most Iconic Dishes”), Coastal Living, Thrillist, Travel Weekly, Tampa Bay Times as well as television segments on ABC and FOX.

About Hemingway’s Modern Cuban Cuisine

Located inside Heights Public Market (HPM) within the historic Armature Works (a 22,000 sq-ft industrial market place perched on the Hillsborough River in Downtown Tampa), Hemingway’s brings Chef Phe’s signature bold and vibrant flavors to the plate. Her passion for high-quality food is clear from her insistence on the best ingredients and a concise but thoughtful menu. Before coming to Armature Works, Chef Felicia Lacalle perfected her skills at highly-regarded local establishments like Bern’s Steakhouse, Roy’s, and Samba Room. As her first baby, Hemingway’s has to reflect all she loves and cares about; in other words, its traditional Cuban cuisine with a soul food twist. Not to mention, as a Tampa native with the requisite family ties to Cuba, she has the added pressure of interpreting what is Tampa’s fiercely-defended native cuisine.
