JLL Extends Lease with Square at BB&T Tower in Midtown Atlanta

11/18/19

JLL today announced that technology company Square, Inc. is expanding its presence by 26,000 square feet at BB&T Tower, a Class-A office building located at Atlantic Station in Midtown Atlanta. JLL Managing Director Travis James and Vice President Brooke Gothard facilitated the transaction on behalf of Square, Inc., while Laura Power and John Zintak with Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord, Lionstone Investments.

Square creates tools for businesses and individuals to participate in the economy. Through this expansion, the company will almost double its presence at BB&T Tower, bringing the total occupied space to 55,000 square feet. The expansion reflects Square’s interest in Midtown’s booming tech landscape, and in addition to the expansion, Square, Inc. has extended its lease agreement.

“Midtown is a hub for innovation and is the ideal location for a growing tech company looking to access top talent and solidify its footprint in the Southeast,” said Gothard. “Square was looking for a space to accommodate its growth and offer its employees modern amenities and connectivity to the rest of the city. Our team is proud to have played a role in bringing more tech opportunities to Atlanta and we’re pleased to support Square as it grows in the market.”

BB&T Tower is a 25-story, 541,870-square-foot trophy office tower, home to major companies such as BB&T, Sage Software and Womble Carlyle. In addition to amenities such as branch banking, concierge and state-of-the-art conference facilities, BB&T Tower’s tenants are within walking distance of Atlantic Station’s mix of restaurants, retailers and entertainment options.

“We are proud to have Square as a leading tech tenant at 271 17th Street,” said Power, a Director in Cushman & Wakefield’s Atlanta office. “Our building has quickly become a magnet for attracting high tech tenants with our platinum connectivity and first-class amenities.”

According to JLL’s The ATL Factor report, Atlanta’s diversity of opportunities, robust talent network and low cost of doing business continues to provide a favorable landscape for companies’ growth and expansion. In addition, software development job postings represent nearly 5% (higher than the national average) of all job opportunities in metro Atlanta, which serves as a nod to the city’s booming tech industry.
