ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Aliera Companies, a holding and management company that provides compliance, accounting, human resources, and training services for its subsidiaries, today announced former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has joined its board of directors and advisory board.
Strickland was elected Ohio’s 68th governor in 2006 at a time when the nation was on the cusp of the Great Recession. During his time as the state’s chief executive, he worked with legislators on both sides of the aisle to make strategic investments in job creation that laid a foundation for economic progress and a thriving middle class.
Prior to his service as governor, he was elected to six terms in the United States House of Representatives. As a democrat representing Ohio's 6th Congressional District, Strickland served one term on the House Committee on Education and Labor and 10 years on the Health Subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
“We are honored to have Governor Strickland join our board of directors and advisory board,” said Shelley Steele, CEO of The Aliera Companies. “He is an accomplished leader that will make an immediate impact and help guide our company’s continued growth. For more than 30 years, he has demonstrated the ability to unite people with diverging viewpoints in working to resolve contentious issues and will be instrumental in helping the board govern the company.”
After leaving public office in 2011, Strickland became a fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University and served as an alternate delegate to the United Nations General Assembly. He was also a member of the Governor’s Council at Ohio’s Bipartisan Policy Center.
“America’s need for quality, affordable health care is greater than ever before and this demand will only increase over time,” Strickland stated. “As such, I look forward to working with Aliera and its board to help improve access to innovative, reliable health care solutions that simplify the complexities.”
Throughout the governor’s time in public service, he served as an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church, a psychologist, an assistant professor of psychology at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio and a consulting psychologist for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. Most recently, he served as president of The Center for American Progress Action Fund and as a fellow at the T.H. Chan School of Public Health at Harvard University.
Strickland holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky.
