Eleven-story hotel in the heart of downtown opens its doors

Last week marked the grand opening of Hyatt Place Centennial Park in downtown Atlanta, a joint hotel venture between affiliates of Atlanta-based developer Songy Highroads, LLC (SHR) and Hyatt Hotels Corporation. The hotel, at 300 Luckie St., is across the street from the Georgia Aquarium and steps from Centennial Olympic Park and World of Coca-Cola.

The 11-story hotel, which opened Sept. 12, boasts 175 guestrooms, retail space facing Luckie and Marietta streets, a pool, fitness center, lobby bar, on-site food service, parking deck and 2,100 square feet of meeting space.

“Atlanta is booming, and this hotel’s location puts it smack in the middle of some the city’s crown-jewel attractions,” said Todd Nocerini, SHR’s chief operating officer. “After more than a year of anticipation, we’re thrilled to open our doors to guests.”

In recognition of its place next to the Georgia Aquarium, the hotel features a large aquarium in the lobby. The building was built by Reeves Young, at Atlanta firm that also helped build the Georgia Aquarium 15 years ago. The architect for Hyatt Place Centennial Park was Wakefield Beasley & Associates, out of Alpharetta, Ga.

SHR has become a trusted partner of the Hyatt brand for developing upscale, urban hotels throughout the Southeast. Hyatt Place Centennial Park marks SHR’s sixth Hyatt-branded development since 2014. SHR and Hyatt acquired the land for the downtown Atlanta hotel in late 2017 and closed on a $32.9 million construction loan in March 2018.

Other recent projects include the Hyatt Regency hotel and Hyatt Place hotel adjacent to Houston’s Galleria shopping center, the Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Washington, D.C., the Hyatt Regency Fairfax hotel conversion and renovation in Fairfax, Va., and the Hyatt House Nashville West End that opened in 2018.
