Georgia’s Own Scooping Free Ice Cream for a Cause

7/16/19

Credit union partnering with local charity Threads to clothe kids preparing to go back to school

Here’s the scoop: With National Ice Cream Month melting away and back-to-school right around the corner, Georgia’s Own is providing free scoops of ice cream to the public this Friday, July 19, as part of a charitable effort to send children back to school with the clothes they need. In exchange for donated items of children’s clothing, especially new pairs of socks, Georgia’s Own will dole out free frozen treats from Scoop-itz at Woodruff Park’s Food Truck Friday series from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event comes as part of Georgia’s Own’s “85 Acts of Kindness” campaign.

Deloitte’s 2019 back-to-school report found that the average family spends an average of $519 per child during the back-to-school season. Considering Atlanta’s current poverty rate of 22.4%, not every child is able to go back to school with new clothes. To help aid those in need, Georgia’s Own is partnering with Threads, a charitable organization that aims to clothe children with dignity, to offer the public a way to stay cool in the dog days of summer while supporting a noble cause.

“Scoops for Socks”is the latest initiative in Georgia’s Own Credit Union’s yearlong “85 Acts of Kindness”campaign celebrating its 85th anniversary by serving the public good in unique and unexpected ways. Follow #85ActsofKindess on social media for announced initiatives open to the general public, as well exclusive surprises for members of the credit union.

The 85-year-old credit union serves metro Atlanta and surrounding areas, as well as Savannah and Augusta, through its 23 branch locations, its contact centers, 24/7 phone banking, as well as its mobile, tablet and online banking platforms.
