Cyclists invited to experience pedestrian-friendly street activation with micro-brewery tour, live music
On Sunday, April 7, the first Atlanta Streets Alive ride of the 2019 series will bring Peachtree Street to life as thousands travel along the Central Route by foot, bike, scooter or any car-free mobility option of their choosing. In conjunction with the open streets initiative, Midtown’s Colony Square invites the community to experience Alive on The Square, a fun-filled afternoon featuring live music, family friendly activities, a micro-brewery tour and more from 2 to 6 p.m.
Atlanta Streets Alive is an ongoing initiative organized by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition with a mission to shift perceptions surrounding transit and reclaim public streets for people by creating dynamic, urban experiences limited to pedestrian traffic. For its sixth consecutive year, Atlanta Streets Alive will take over Peachtree Street, Atlanta’s most heavily-trafficked thoroughfare, by inviting pedestrians to explore the community with sustainability top of mind.
“As we reimagine Colony Square, our ExperienceMakers™ are dedicated to discovering innovative ways to prioritize transit and mobility in Midtown,” said Sara Carville, marketing coordinator for Colony Square. “We’re excited to once again team up with Atlanta Streets Alive to bring a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly streetscape to life along Peachtree Street.”
Kicking at 2 p.m., the Central Route will activate the 3.1 mile stretch of iconic Peachtree Street between south Downtown and the heart of Midtown for pedestrians to traverse freely without the worry of motorized traffic. From Mitchell Street SW to 17th Street NW, Peachtree Street will be activated with a wealth of interactive experiences provided by Atlanta Streets Alive activity sponsors and route hosts.
During the Streets Alive festivities, guests are invited to stop by Colony Square and park their bikes using the destination’s complimentary bike valet service. Additionally, Alive on The Square will feature live entertainment from Emerald Empire Band along with savory eats from Yumbii and Buena Gente food trucks.
Alive on the Square will also include a micro-brewery tour featuring local pours from Printer’s Ale, Southern Brew Company, Monday Night Brewery and Red Hare Brewery. To participate, guests can check-in at the Front Loop to grab a glass and tour card. Each brewery will have a customized tent and serve two complimentary tastings per guest throughout the afternoon.
Cycle enthusiasts are also invited to snap unforgettable selfies in the Photo Bus photobooth and take a spin around The Square on the Southern Pedaler party bike. Colony Square’s Alive on The Square is free and open to the public. Food and beverage prices vary.
Throughout Alive on The Square, guests are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using #AliveOnTheSquare and #OptOutOfTraffic. To learn more about happenings at Colony Square, follow the Midtown destination on Twitter, Facebook and Insta
