Action Cycling Atlanta Hosts Annual Field Day in Support of HIV/AIDS Research

3/5/19

Annual Field Day event to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS vaccine research??and for children affected by HIV/AIDS in local Atlanta communities.?

Action Cycling Atlanta (ACA), Atlanta’s leading all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to ending HIV/AIDS through sporting fundraisers,?will?host its?second annual Field Day on April 6, 2019 at Emory University to raise funds for HIV/AIDS vaccine research and improve the quality of life for children impacted by HIV/AIDS in the Atlanta area.

Throughout the day, teams of eight or more friends, co-workers and families will compete in classic, schoolyard games such as three-legged races, hula hoop contests, tug-of-war, burlap sack races, wheelbarrow races, balloon tosses and more. All proceeds from the event with go toward Atlanta-based Hearts Everywhere Reaching Out for Children, Inc. (H.E.R.O.) as well as ACA’s efforts to fund HIV/AIDS vaccine research, education and prevention.

“Atlanta-area residents might not know how widespread the effects of HIV/AIDS are in our local communities and around the world, and what better way to raise awareness than by having some old-fashion fun,” said Jonathan Karron, President of ACA. “Not only is Field Day always such a positive event full of friends and family members, but it also gives those who can’t participate in our?AV200 200-mile?bike ride in May an opportunity to be?not only?advocates and supporters, but also participants in helping find a vaccine and cure for HIV/AIDS and support Atlanta area AIDS service organizations.”

ACA’s annual Field Day was?re-launched?in 2018 as part of the organization’s efforts to raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS research and support local Atlanta AIDS organizations.?The popular?event was?sunset in the early 2010s but was brought back by popular demand by ACA and served as a way for people who wanted to participate in fun activities and be advocates and fundraisers for HIV/AIDS causes but found Action Cycling Atlanta’s signature, two-day, 200-mile bike ride daunting.

ACA Field Day is from 10?a.m. – 1?p.m. on April 6, 2019 at?the Emory SAAC (Student Activity & Academic Center), 1946?Starvine?Way, Decatur, GA 30033. Each team?member?will be provided with?a team t-shirt for the event.?Teams can accumulate points by?fundraising and?winning?games?throughout the event for the chance to win the Field Day championship title.
