Carter continues magnitude of impact in Atlanta’s southside, welcoming IGWM and KMM & Co. to the 1.1 million-square-foot adaptive reuse warehouse district
Carter today announces two new creative tenants, currently occupying spaces within Ponce City Market, will bring their workspaces to the MET, a 1.1 million-square-foot adaptive reuse warehouse district in Atlanta’s southside. Leather goods brand KMM & CO. and accessory and apparel brand In God We Must (IGWM) have signed new leases for retail and creative workspaces and will join the tenant mix of office, creative, maker, retail, residential and event spaces at the MET.
Currently occupying 1,000 square feet of space in Ponce City Market’s Citizen Supply, In God We Must, IGWM, is expanding its physical footprint with a lease for 1,070 square feet of space at the MET. The apparel, jewelry, leather goods and candle brand’s new space will offer production and retail capabilities, allowing much of the merchandise to be made, sold and shipped from the MET. With orders placed around the world, IGWM will have the ability to create from Atlanta’s southside neighborhood but reach people on an international scale.
“We’ve known about the MET for a while, having worked with another tenant, Danger Press, since IGWM’s inception. Once we heard about all of the activity over here, we knew it would be the perfect place for us to expand,” said IGWM founder John Elija Richards. “Starting out as a digital brand, we couldn’t be more excited to expand our own space at the MET, where we have an opportunity to join forces with other tenants, host workshops, sell merchandise and fulfill orders.”
KMM & CO., carefully crafted leather goods brand founded by Kyle Martin, will move its current workspace at Ponce City Market to the MET. The new space will fully support the production and manufacturing of leather goods, including wallets, totes and other accessories, along with a retail component. The industrial aesthetic mixed with a worn in, Americana feel of the brand seamlessly complements the raw interiors of the MET. With all goods made in the state of Georgia, KMM & CO. is committed to the theme of creating locally to impact globally. KMM & CO. will occupy 1,220 square feet at the MET and plans to be open by February 2019.
“When we first toured the space, we were immediately drawn to all of the activity happening at the MET,” said Marcus Orfield with KMM. “The warehouse property gives off such a strong sense of authenticity and the local Atlanta community coming together, whether through business, art or ideas. We are excited to see how the brand will thrive within the MET.”
The MET is home to more than 140 tenants and is currently leasing spaces ranging from 1,000 to 100,000+ square feet and can support a variety of businesses, from startups and nonprofits to established companies in search of new headquarters. Premium office spaces feature oversized windows and overhead skylights, providing an abundant natural light that fills the room.
“The MET serves as a creative catalyst in southside Atlanta that is giving artists, digital creators and entrepreneurs a chance to grow and collaborate,” said Carter Executive VP David Nelson. “As we continue to bring in a variety of tenants to the MET, we have the ability to transform the area into one of the most vibrant entrepreneurial communities and open a door for a magnitude of impact that extends throughout Atlanta and beyond.”
The MET is currently undergoing property improvements, including increased accessibility to the site with a reinstated entrance from Murphy Avenue, as well as renovated creative office spaces with creative floorplans to offer a dynamic experience and communal spaces, including a courtyard and spaces available for community gatherings and events.
About the MET
Previously known as The Metropolitan, the MET is a 1.1 million-square-foot property, adjacent to the West End MARTA Station, situated between Murphy Avenue and Metropolitan Parkway. In June 2018, Atlanta-based Carter purchased the property and a renovation effort is currently underway. The adaptive reuse is now a place that facilitates a workforce of creators, innovators and entrepreneurs to thrive. The MET is home to more than 140 tenants and is currently leasing spaces that range from 1,000 square feet to over 100,000 square feet of office, creative, maker, retail, residential and event space.
