Shaton Menzie

Patent litigation attorney Shaton Menzie has joined Womble Bond Dickinson’s Atlanta office.

Menzie focuses her practice on patent litigation in district courts and Patent Trial and Appeal Board proceedings. She also provides clients with strategic patent, trademark and copyright counseling, including patentability, infringement and validity opinions.

Her technical experience includes wireless communication devices and systems, financial services technologies, computer network authentication and security software, data retrieval and archiving software, children’s safety devices, automotive components and devices, aerospace components and devices, computer architecture, consumer electronics, and various other Internet-based and computer-related technologies. Many of these fields relate to her previous academic and work experience. Prior to becoming an attorney, she worked at the University of Chicago, including service as a Senior Project Coordinator in the Office of Technology and Intellectual Property (now the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation).

“Shaton is a rising star in the patent litigation field. She has the litigation acumen and technical background to guide clients through their most challenging cases, and we are glad to have her on the Womble Bond Dickinson team,” said John Morrow, leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Disputes and Litigation Team.

Menzie is a frequent speaker and author on IP issues. In 2018, she was named one of Atlanta’s Attorneys to Watch by Atlanta Attorney at Law magazine.

Her professional service includes co-chairing the State Bar of Georgia’s Committee to Promote Inclusion in the Legal Profession. She also serves as Co-Chair of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys’ Intellectual Property Law Section, and as the 2019 Conference Logistics Chair for the Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys, Inc.

In the community, she volunteers her time with a number of civic organizations, including serving as Assistant Program Director for Jack and Jill of America’s Atlanta Chapter. Jack and Jill of America is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2 to 19, dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening all children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic duty. Menzie has also represented veterans on a pro bono basis before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veteran’s Claims.
