The Atlanta Apartment Association’s (AAA) annual Food-A-Thon, one of the nation’s largest food drives, raised enough food items and money donations this year to provide 8.03 million meals to feed hungry families across north Georgia. Now in its 32nd year, AAA celebrates its longstanding partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and the donations gathered over the years providing over 110 million meals for the hungry.
“Year after year, our members continue to outdo themselves to aid in our mission to fight hunger and feed our neighbors in need. This year we were overjoyed to deliver over 8 million meals,” said Tommy Brunson, 2018 chair of AAA and senior vice president of development at Fairfield Residential. “We are so thankful for each and every one of our member companies and the support from apartment residents across metro Atlanta.”
During the Food-A-Thon, AAA members competitively collect food items and money throughout their apartment communities for donation to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The Food-A-Thon donation drive kicked off on June 20 and concluded on October 19 with a colorful parade and celebration. This year’s theme was “A Land Without Hunger” and members paraded in fairy tale-themed costumes to deliver their food and money donations to the Food Bank’s headquarters in Atlanta.
“Our community faces significant levels of food insecurity - meaning that our neighbors often struggle to put food on the table,” said Kyle Waide, CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “Our long partnership with the Atlanta Apartment Association has helped the Food Bank create a legacy of mobilizing the food, people and big ideas needed to end hunger across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. By ending hunger, not only do individuals grow stronger, but so does our community.”
Founded in 1979, the Atlanta Community Food Bank distributes more than 60 million meals each year through 600+ nonprofit partner agencies serving families and individuals in 29 metro Atlanta and north Georgia counties. For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can provide up to four meals to families in need.

About the Atlanta Community Food Bank
The Atlanta Community Food Bank works to end hunger with the food, people and big ideas needed to ensure our neighbors have the nourishment to lead healthy and productive lives. Far too many people in our own community experience hunger every day, including children, seniors and working families.
Through more than 600 nonprofit partners, we help more than 755,000 people get healthy food every year. Our goal is that, by 2025, all hungry people across metro Atlanta and North Georgia will have access to the nutritious meals they need when they need them. It takes the power of our whole community to make that possible. Join us at ACFB.org.
