Colony Square to Host “Fall Harvest on The Square” during Atlanta Streets Alive on Sept. 30

9/24/18

Community invited to celebrate city-street activation with live music, food trucks and more

The leaves are changing, the weather is cooling (at least it will soon) and Midtown’s Colony Square invites the community to enjoy Fall Harvest on The Square in partnership with Atlanta Streets Alive for its third and final ride of the 2018 event series. On Sunday, Sept. 30 from 2 to 6 p.m., travel through the parade’s Central Route by foot, bike or Bird and end at Midtown’s iconic mixed-use destination for a festive afternoon featuring live music, delicious food and drink, and fun activities perfect for the whole family.

Atlanta Streets Alive is an ongoing initiative organized by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition. The program temporarily closes iconic Atlanta thoroughfares to motorized traffic, inviting pedestrians to explore the surrounding community streets in a safer, healthier, more livable way. With 30 percent of the city’s public space devoted to streets, Atlanta Streets Alive encourages the community to bike, walk and discover Atlanta with sustainability in mind.

“Like Atlanta Streets Alive, our team at Colony Square is working towards a more open, walkable and connected Atlanta,” said Sara Carville, marketing coordinator for Colony Square. “We can’t wait to see Midtown spring to life this weekend and are excited for the vibrant, urban energy the experience brings to our city streets.”

The Central Route will activate the 3.1 mile stretch of iconic Peachtree Street between South Downtown and the heart of Midtown for pedestrians to relish freely. The route will begin at the intersection of Peachtree Street and Mitchell Street SW and end at the intersection of Peachtree Street and 17thStreet NW.

Throughout the cycling festivities, guests are invited to visit Colony Square and park their bikes using the complimentary bike valet service. Throughout the afternoon, Fall Harvest on The Square will feature a live musical performance from Mike Veal Band, seasonal beverages from the Sunshine Alchemy Alcohol Truck, as well as tasty eats from the Yumbii food truck and The Queso Truck. Additionally, attendees can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a one-of-a-kind Colony Square bike. Each raffle ticket purchased can be redeemed for a complimentary beverage from Sunshine Alchemy and Colony Square will donate 15 percent of tickets sales to the Atlanta Bike Coalition.

Guests are also encouraged to marvel at the event’s interactive string bike display, and even have the opportunity to participate in bringing the immersive art to life.

Inspired by open street activations around the world, Atlanta Streets Alive was recently honored at the 24th Annual ULI Atlanta Awards for Excellence, receiving the Jury’s Award for its dedication to promoting healthy, safe and alternate transportation options. Through this mission, Atlanta Streets Alive is shifting cultural expectations surrounding transit and creating dynamic, urban city-street experiences that welcome thousands of Atlanta residents each year.

Colony Square’s Fall Harvest on The Square is free and open to the public. Food and beverage prices vary.
