Multi-faceted, seasoned attorney tapped by Miami-based residential development company to expand its national scope and portfolio

Kaplan Residential– the Miami and Atlanta-based residential real estate development company with prominent community projects throughout the Southeastern U.S. – announced today that Isaac Marcushamer has joined as general counsel and managing director. Following more than a decade as a seasoned attorney, his addition brings a unique perspective to identifying value-oriented real estate opportunities for the company.

In his new role, Marcushamer will focus on utilizing his deep knowledge in multiple disciplines to source and analyze acquisitions and transactions for Kaplan Residential, as well as identify equity and capital partners. He will oversee all corporate, real estate, litigation and transactions for the company, which has a track record of more than $1.5 billion in development. Marcushamer will hone in on this expertise following his prior role as a partner with Berger Singerman’s Business and Restructuring team, one of the nation’s preeminent practices for these matters. He also served as the law firm’s chief innovation partner, responsible for identifying and implementing new technologies and resources to serve clients.

Marcushamer is the second-high profile hire for the Kaplan Residential team this year. In January, Scott W. Hawley joined as managing director after more than six years with Greystar, a leader in multifamily operations and development.

A native of Mexico City and raised in Canada, Marcushamer’s global mindset and diverse background allow for a distinct synergy with Kaplan Residential’s offerings. Throughout his career, he has been actively sought for dispute work, litigation and negotiations, having represented bankruptcy trustees and worked through complex transactions of distressed entities, as well as handled proceedings with opportunistic investors and non-traditional investments.

Marcushamer has been frequently recognized by Chambers & Partners in bankruptcy and restructuring, as well as by Florida Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” attorney. He began his career as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Raymond B. Ray of the United States Bankruptcy Court in the Southeastern District of Florida. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he serves on the board of governors for Scheck Hillel Community School, the third largest Jewish day school in the country. Marcushamer received his law degree, cum laude, from Hofstra Law School, and undergraduate degrees in economics and political science from University of Toronto.
