Athletics medical staff will utilize eye tracking platform to support concussion management protocol, monitoring of student athletes

SyncThink, a leader in brain health assessment technology with foundational IP in eye-tracking analytics, announces today its partnership with the sports medicine department at the Georgia Tech Athletic Association. The department will employ the EYE-SYNC technology amongst its 19 athletic programs to support the medical care and proactive monitoring of student-athletes. The SyncThink platform will be utilized by medical personnel both on field and in sports medicine facilities.

Georgia Tech is the latest among a host of recent NCAA programs to incorporate the novel eye tracking solution as part of their institutional concussion management program. The department believed that the time was right to incorporate the latest in modern technology into the medical services offered to student athletes.

“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to work with Scott Anderson and his team with EYE-SYNC, but even more excited about the opportunity to improve our student-athlete outcomes as it relates to understanding the complexities of mTBI care.” Georgia Tech Associate Director of Sports Medicine Carla Gilson said, “Having a more objective means to assessment may offer a clearer path to recovery and healing for our student-athletes and sports medicine staff.”

The SyncThink platform incorporates a multi-modal assessment inventory featuring the FDA cleared EYE-SYNC technology, which uses a modified virtual reality goggle to objectively measure and detect visual impairments in less than a minute. The technology was developed through extensive research over a ten-year period by Stanford neurosurgeon Dr. Jamshid Ghajar.

SyncThink CCO Scott Anderson worked closely with the Georgia Tech sports medicine department staff to incorporate the technology into their program in numerous ways. Anderson said, “As we continue to gain traction in the sports and medical arenas, many are realizing the added value of our technology and the critical importance of objective measurements. Georgia Tech is the latest example of a department that is always looking to advance the way they care for their student athletes, and by offering our technology the medical staff takes another stride to demonstrate their commitment to cutting edge care.”

SyncThink continues to focus on the application of its core EYE-SYNC technology to bring objective eye-tracking analytics to the sidelines and clinic. The SyncThink platform is a comprehensive and objective assessment tool that measures dynamic visual attention and includes cognitive and vestibular assessments to examine the full spectrum of brain health, rapidly, reliably and accurately in a VR headset.
