The family law firm of Connell Cummings (www.connellcummings.com) today announced that partner Kathleen “Katie” B. Connell has been named a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML).

With her selection, Connell becomes the youngest attorney in Georgia to receive the distinction of Fellow. She is one of only 32 Fellows in Georgia and 1,650 across the United States.

AAML Fellows are regarded by judges and respected by peer attorneys as leading family law practitioners who possess a high level of knowledge, skill, and integrity. Fellowship in AAML is based on reputation, experience, and expertise, as well as successful completion of comprehensive examinations and certifications on all facets of family law.

“I have devoted my entire career to guiding clients through some of life’s most difficult personal challenges, so it is a tremendous honor to be recognized by AAML as one of the top lawyers in my field,” said Connell. “It’s especially rewarding to see my name alongside so many smart and talented AAML peers, many of whom are the same mentors and friends who have helped me get where I am today.”

In addition to being named a Fellow by AAML, Connell has received numerous accolades over the course of her 14-year legal career.  She has been selected to the Super Lawyers list multiple times, most recently as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Georgia for 2018. Connell has also been named one of Georgia Trend’s Legal Elite, including being recognized as one of the “Top 40 Under 40: Georgia’s Best and Brightest.” In 2013, Connell was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to the Georgia Commission on Child Support, a role that she was reappointed to in 2016 and still serves in today. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Weltner Family Law American Inn of Court.

Connell earned her Juris Doctor degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. She received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Auburn University. A native of Savannah, Georgia, Connell resides in Atlanta with her husband and sons.
