Panel selects the Cooper Carry project for Award of Excellence after substantial energy savings and dedication of new community park
The City of Atlanta Urban Design Commission has named luxury residential apartment building AMLI 3464 the recipient of its prestigious Award of Excellence. The award honors projects and organizations that significantly contribute toward the enhancement of the City of Atlanta’s built environment through quality and sustainable design.
“We are honored to receive the 2018 Award of Excellence from the Atlanta Urban Design Commission, which is a testament to AMLI’s efforts in supporting innovative models for sustainable design,” said Annie Evans, Vice President-Development at AMLI Residential. “AMLI 3464 demonstrates how a design approach focused on connectivity and resource conservation can make a positive, lasting impact on the community.”
Designed by Cooper Carry, the 240-unit residential high-rise in the heart of Buckhead was selected by a panel of experts who noted the tower’s inclusion of energy-efficient appliances and environmentally conscious amenities, proximity to alternative transit systems, the addition of a 1.4-acre public park and the use of healthy building materials. Within walking distance of Phipps Plaza, Lenox Mall and the nearby Financial District, AMLI 3464 also recently became the first Atlanta residential high-rise to achieve Gold level status under the LEED® for Homes program.
The 364,648-square-foot apartment complex achieved superior efficiency on energy and water conservation. During the construction process, the project team diverted over 75 percent of the construction waste from landfills to improve the building’s waste stream. The building also features ENERGY STAR® appliances and WaterSense fixtures, improved indoor air quality systems and electric car charging stations. The community is designed with a 20% energy reduction and 30% water reduction over LEED’s baseline.
With a focus on seamlessly integrating the apartment building into its surrounding community, AMLI Residential allocated 1.4-acres of the project site to create Marie Sims Park, a dual-purpose public park, offering the community an urban green space and providing storage for stormwater runoff. A portion of the storm runoff flows into the park where it is then collected and managed, reducing the risk of flooding in the area.
“Cooper Carry is committed to delivering projects that enhance the quality of our environment,” said Krista Dumkrieger, associate with Cooper Carry’s mixed-use studio. “We look for every opportunity to incorporate design practices that reduce waste, save energy and promote healthy lifestyles. AMLI 3464 is a flag-bearer for what the future holds, and we are proud to have partnered with AMLI on this innovative project.”
