All race proceeds to benefit The Lionheart School, local non-profit for children with special needs
WHAT: Walk, run or trot for a great cause this Saturday, April 21 at Avalon for the fourth annual Heart & Sole 5K benefiting Alpharetta’s The Lionheart School, a local non-profit organization for children with special needs. At 7:30 a.m., runners will take off down Avalon Boulevard, followed by an awards ceremony once all have crossed the finish line. At 8:30 a.m., a one mile Fun Run will take participants on a journey through the mixed-use community, plus, a tot trot for mini racers will be held in The Plaza at 9 a.m.
Following the completion of the events, all participants are invited to celebrate their accomplishments with a post-race festival featuring complimentary beer, Bloody Marys and fun activities for all ages in The Plaza.
This family-friendly event is for runners and walkers of all ages, plus, strollers and dogs are welcome. All runners will receive a professionally designed race t-shirt for participating in the race. To register for each of the events, visit: https://bit.ly/2oCa2cX.
Many of the students and families from The Lionheart School will be in attendance, supporting the runners who have donated to their cause. In addition, items from The LionheARTisans Cottage and produce from The Lionheart Gardens, the school’s own organic garden, will be available for purchase throughout the event. WHEN: Saturday, April 21. Registration and bibs will be available for participants for pick up in Avalon’s Living Room on Friday, April 20 from 12 – 2 p.m. or in The Plaza from 4 – 7 p.m. Participants can also pick up registration packets in The Plaza on race day starting at 6:30 a.m. The start times for each event are as follows:
- 5K Race – 7:30 a.m.
- Fun Run – 8:30 a.m.
- Tot Trot – 9:00 a.m.

About The Lionheart School
Lionheart is a non-profit 501 (c)3 organization founder in the year 2000 by a group of parents and professionals who created a supportive and nurturing environment for children with challenges of relating and communicating. Lionheart started in a small cottage on the grounds of the Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, and worked diligently to create a model program that focused on each child’s individual differences. In 2010, with the support of families, friends, foundation and the community, Lionheart moved in a new building that was designed specifically for the population in serves.
