Community invited to enjoy crawfish, drinks, live music and more to raise funds for multiple myeloma
On Saturday, May 19, MillTown Arms Tavern and a portion of the surrounding Cabbagetown neighborhood will be transformed into an afternoon block party for the fifth annual Crawfish for Cancer Atlanta Boil benefiting the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. The community is invited to experience this one-of-a-kind event featuring unlimited crawfish and specialty cocktails, live music, giveaways, and more, from 2 to 7 p.m.
“This year marks the 10th anniversary since launching the event in New York City, and I’m humbled to see how much it’s grown,” said Daniel Gura, founding member of Crawfish for Cancer. “The secret to our success has been getting tied into each community to plan and host a Crawfish Boil tailored to each location. We’re thrilled to bring the event back to Cabbagetown for this monumental milestone and thankful for the continued support from our neighbors.”
The party will kick off at 2 p.m. with a pop-up from Illegal Foods chef Steven Lingenfelter and his wife and partner Laurie Dominguez outside of their new concept, Mouth of the South. The pair will serve delicious bites until 4 p.m. Live musical entertainment will also begin at 2 p.m., with performances lasting throughout the day from several local bands, including New Orleans-influenced Wasted Potential Brass Band.
At 4 p.m., the first round of fresh crawfish, which is delivered live from the Gulf Coast the morning of the Boil, will be served. The crawfish are first come, first served, and will be continuously dumped until the 750-plus pounds are gone. Throughout the event, Carroll Street will be activated with games from life-sized Jenga to cornhole and a gallery of nonprofit organizations educating attendees about their missions.
MillTown Arms Tavern will provide beverages during the celebration, plus, master mixologist Adam Fox will craft a specialty cocktail for revelers to enjoy. There will also be an opportunity to win prizes, such as signed Braves memorabilia, Atlanta sporting event tickets, wellness packages, and other items donated from local organizations. Attendees are invited to stop by the photo booth and share their experience on social media using the hashtag #CrawfishforCancerATL.
“Crawfish for Cancer is an organization that means the world to me as I lost my father nearly 20 years ago to Multiple Myeloma,” said Dustin Weaver, a planning committee member and event co-host. “Being a member of the event planning committee is extremely rewarding as I get to help firsthand with raising funds for medical breakthroughs. The community support for our event has been overwhelming and we look forward to seeing new faces this year as we come together for good food, good friends, and an even better cause.”
The all-inclusive event tickets are now on sale for $50 through May 1 and increase as the event approaches. Partygoers must be 21 and over to attend. Started in 2008, Crawfish for Cancer (CFC Inc.) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for multiple myeloma cancer research. By hosting events that cater to young professionals, the organization provides monetary donations in the fight against this currently incurable disease. 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of CFC's founding and the fifth anniversary of Atlanta's participation in the nationwide event, which is hosted in 10 cities across the U.S. Last year’s event in Atlanta attracted over 350 people and raised more than $10,000.
