Out Front Theatre Company Announces directors for 2017-2018 Season

6/5/17

Out Front Theatre Company, the only theatre in the Southeastern United States dedicated to consistently telling compelling and important stories of the LGBTQIA community, announced today the roster of directors who will lead the company’s second season of shows.

Beginning in October, the season will kick off with the cult musical The Rocky Horror Show, directed by Matthew Busch. Busch currently serves as the associate artistic director of Out of Box Theatre in Marietta and recently acted as the assistant director of The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told at Out Front. Busch has also previously worked with True Colors Theatre Company and Actor’s Express.

In February, 2018, The Mystery of Love and Sex will make its Southeastern premiere at Out Front, directed by Amber Bradshaw. Bradshaw is the managing artistic director of Working Titles Playwrights, which exists to provide playwrights with the opportunity to excel at their craft by fostering an environment that nurtures the creation of powerful, thought-provoking and relevant plays that bring new, diverse voices to the local and national stage. Bradshaw previously worked in Atlanta at The Essential Theatre, Center for Puppetry Arts and Theatrical Outfit.

The final two shows of Out Front’s 2017/2018 season will be helmed by members of the company’s resident artistic staff.

Founder and Producing Artistic Director Paul Conroy will direct Buyer and Cellar, which is also the company’s first co-production with another Atlanta theater. ART Station in Stone Mountain will present the comedy in September 2017 before it is presented at Out Front Theatre Company in March, 2018. Conroy will direct both of the one-man show engagements. Conroy directed all three productions in Out Front’s inaugural season, which included Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: The Musical, A Kid Like Jake and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told.

To conclude Out Front’s season in May, 2018, Jacob Demlow will direct Del Shores’ iconic comedy Sordid Lives.  Demlow serves as Out Front’s assistant artistic director and head of education. Most recently, he directed The Laramie Project for Independent Artists’ Playhouse, and this summer he will direct the world premiere reboot of the musical, Zanna, Don’t!, as the first production for Out Front’s educational programming.

“To have such a strong and diverse slate of directors in our second season is nothing short of phenomenal,” Conroy says. “Our directors are some of the best artists in Atlanta, and there is no doubt that they will deliver productions that will have our audiences raving.”
