The CBRE Women’s Network Atlanta chapter is proud to share the success of its recent volunteer day at the Junior Achievement (JA) Finance Park. The event provides first-hand, real-world experience to the seventh-grade students from Chamblee Middle School, highlighting the potential of their financial futures.
The goal of the day was to help the students understand and begin planning for different stepping points in their lives, including education to career, career to income, and ultimately, their income to lifestyle.
According to the organization's website, the center provides each student with a unique adult profile that includes a career, income, education level, and family scenario. Based on their customized profile, students can research different financial decisions in order to complete a balanced household budget.
Using their profiles, students can also “shop” and implement into their lifestyle the costs of internet education, health care, groceries and clothes through businesses that support the JA Discovery Center. The most impactful part of the experience is letting them decide what is considered a "want" versus a "need," based on the budget they create. After a day of mentoring and guiding students, the CBRE Atlanta Chapter assisted in creating an engaging, personalized learning experience for the 12-14 years olds.
“JA Finance Park implemented a successful plan that taps the most effective way for these students to plan for their financial futures—a lesson that they may not be getting in the traditional classroom setting,” says CBRE Atlanta Field Delegate Jennifer Keith. “Our voluteers find CBRE find the day to be equally rewarding. We have forged a special partnership with JA Finance Park, so it is always our pleasure to attend their events throughout the year.”
