Lars Mathiassen Receives Honorary Doctorate from Umeå University

Lars Mathiassen, Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar, professor of computer information systems and co-founder of the Center for Process Innovation at Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business, has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Sweden’s Umeå University.

One of the world’s leading researchers in informatics, Mathiassen is renowned for establishing connections between academic research and industry practitioners to advance innovation. He has served as visiting professor at the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation, part of the Department of Informatics at Umeå University.

Founded in 1965, Umeå University is Sweden’s fifth oldest university. The university prides itself on developing interaction between research, education, collaboration, and innovation that challenges boundaries and plays a crucial role in the region’s development.

Mathiassen has been a part of Robinson’s faculty since 2002, when he joined from Aalborg University, Denmark. He has had visiting positions at France’s Theseus International Management Institute, Warwick Business School and the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom, and Viktoria Institute, Sweden. He is on the editorial board of several international journals and has published in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Research Policy, and Journal of Business Ethics, among others.

This is Mathiassen’s second honorary doctorate. He received his first from the University of Copenhagen in 2011.
