CBRE Group, Inc., the world’s largest commercial real estate and investment firm, today announced that David Wagner, a 23-year commercial real estate veteran and industry leader, has joined CBRE Atlanta’s office as vice president on the Southeast Multifamily investment team. Other investment team members include Malcolm McComb, Kevin Geiger, Paul Berry, Ashish Cholia, and Shea Campbell.
Having served in all roles regarding multifamily investment, Wagner brings a well-rounded perspective to the team. He began his real estate career while in graduate school interning with Ben Carter & Associates and began his experience in the multifamily sector with Sentinel Real Estate Corporation, leasing apartments for $7/hr. plus commission. Shortly after, in 1995 he landed with Harmony Properties as an assistant property manager, eventually moving to the corporate office and taking over acquisitions, project management, IT systems, and more.
“It was a privately held company so we all wore a lot of hats,” Wagner said. “It’s really where I cut my teeth in real estate. With each acquisition I was involved in every aspect of the investment, learning and working alongside accomplished professionals. Understanding the real estate from the top down and the acquisition process from both sides of the table creates value that our clients really appreciate. Clients come first, always.”
Looking to shake things up after spending more than a decade acquiring, renovating, and repositioning deals, Wagner got into brokerage with Cushman & Wakefield. After a short stint back on the owner’s side with Cortland Partners during the recession, Wagner was eager to get back into brokerage, joining HFF in 2012. Wagner cites an attraction to CBRE’s extensive platform, culture and people as being the core factors in his decision to join CBRE.
“I remember early on watching Malcom McComb speak to the Atlanta Apartment Association, and being impressed as he, Kevin, Paul and Ashish built something really special over at CBRE,” Wagner said. “I’ve been friends with Shea for a long time and he really rounds out the group. They have put together a group of really talented people; everyone here works collaboratively and has a passion to be the best. It’s a really exciting atmosphere to be around, and I jumped at the chance to be a part of the CBRE team.”
“Dave’s ability to see a transaction for angles others cannot, and to spot a solution ahead of a problem, will undoubtedly build advantage for our multifamily clients,” said David Lanier, CBRE’s Atlanta Senior Managing Director. “Dave will be able to assist us in building the market share of middle market transactions, as well as an expertise in workforce housing.”
Wagner attended Purdue University and Georgia State University.
