HALCYON recently broke ground on its extension of the Big Creek Greenway, a 12-foot-wide multi-use trail that currently spans 9.6 miles through Forsyth County. The developer of the mixed-use village is constructing an extension that will lengthen the trail by approximately 0.75 miles along Big Creek in Forsyth County. Included in this new expansion, will be a new paved and lit parking lot, restrooms, and a trailhead. This expansion will tie into the sidewalks along Ronald Reagan Boulevard, and will lead to the eventual connection into the Alpharetta Big Creek Greenway. The trail will weave into the HALCYON development, which is being developed by RocaPoint Partners and New York-based The Georgetown Company.

General contractor and trail builder Steele & Associates Inc. will complete the extension. Aaron Steele, principal of Steele & Associates Inc. and local Forsyth County resident, has completed similar projects in the past. The extension is expected to be complete next year.

Nature trails and parks connect to the Big Creek Greenway, which has additional phases planned to expand the trail to 15 miles. The greenway, which is a natural wilderness preserve, offers an ideal setting for walking, jogging, biking and inline skating. By prioritizing and funding the extension and trailhead, HALCYON puts nature and active recreation squarely in the forefront. ­­­­­

HALCYON, currently under construction, will include more than 480,000 square feet of office and retail space, the only dine-in movie theater in Forsyth County, two hotels and 690 residential units, once completed.
