Baker Donelson presents Cybercon 2016, an annual conference focused on the evolving issues affecting cybersecurity. The program, which will be held on September 27at Georgia Tech Global Learning Center in Atlanta, Georgia, will bring together business, governmental and academic leaders to discuss the continually changing cybersecurity landscape.
"Everything in our culture depends on a secure cyber landscape," stated Joe Whitley, Chair of the Government Enforcement and Investigations Group for Baker Donelson. "Much of our physical infrastructure is remote controlled and monitored and therefore vulnerable in the cyber arena. So we must approach this critical issue in a way that's coherent. And that is exactly what we'll be discussing at this year's event."
The keynote event will be a "fireside chat" with Dr. Phyllis Schneck, Department of Homeland Security's Deputy Undersecretary for Cybersecurity and Communications. She is the senior-most official at DHS whose responsibilities are focused solely on cybersecurity.
"When we talk about American infrastructure, she's really at the heart of a key piece of it," said Whitley. "The ability to communicate freely via the internet and other devices is key to our ability to function as a nation. This really transcends every other area of security in the United States, as there is no security issue that does not have a cybersecurity component in it."

Cybercon 2016 will also include an invitation-only product pitch session, during which up to 12 cybersecurity companies, both foreign and domestic, will be selected to present their products to CIOs, CISOs and other security professionals from southeastern U.S. companies and governments. After all presentations are completed, the presenting companies will have a private lunch with the CIOs and CISOs. Additional introductions will be facilitated between presenting companies and CIOs and CISOs who have indicated an interest in a particular company's product. Companies interested in applying can do so here. Application deadline is August 27.
Cybercon 2016 is the first of two major cybersecurity events to be hosted in Atlanta's Technology Square, with the 2016 Georgia Tech Cyber Security Summit being held the following day on September 28 at the same location. The 14th Annual Georgia Tech Cyber Security Summit brings together front-line innovators from government, industry and academia for a free, one-day symposium about emerging cyber threats, trends and technologies. Sophisticated cyber-attacks are redefining the reality of security and are quickly becoming one of the most prevalent issues affecting modern businesses.
